Anti-aging Solution of Polyamide (Nylon, PA)

Nylon(polyamide, PA) is an engineering plastic with excellent mechanical and processing properties, among which PA6 and PA66 are common polyamide varieties.

However, it has limitations in high temperature resistance, poor color stability, and is prone to moisture absorption and hydrolysis.

Taking PA6 as an example, this article explores how to improve its aging resistance. Related studies have shown that the performance of PA6 can be significantly improved by adding suitable antioxidants and other additives. After long-term UV exposure testing and thermal stability testing, the following combinations have provided good protection for the mechanical properties and color of nylon:

Antioxidant 1098 + Antioxidant 626

Antioxidant 245 + Antioxidant 626

Antioxidant 1098 + Antioxidant 168

To extended service life of PA, it is often necessary to add some other additives. For example, adding HALS to enhance light stability, LS770 is one of the feasible options with minimal impact on mechanical properties. Meanwhile, our company provides a multifunctional nylon stabilizer called LS438, which improved melt processing of polyamides, enhanced long-term heat and photo-stability, and improve color fastness.

To further enhance whiteness and cover yellowing, TiO2, ultramarine blue, optical brightening agents, etc. have also been added to Polyamide. The Optical Brightener KSN provided by our company is a high-quality and high-temperature resistant choice.

In addition, carbodiimide anti-hydrolysis agent can be added to enhance its anti hydrolysis performance and further prolong its oxidation induction time by coordinating with other additives.
